Keeping History Alive: Eras and Icons

The new Institute for Faith & Freedom podcast devoted to keeping history alive and well.

Clarissa Schuller

Recently, the door opened for me to create a new podcast with the Institute for Faith and Freedom. Entitled Eras and Icons, this new interview-style podcast will feature discussions with various scholars to rediscover what distinguishes the iconic figures of history from the millions who have faded from memory.

History is a love of mine, but it can be hard to stay engaged when reading about it in dense textbooks or dull non-fiction works. When I was young, history was engaging and fun because my mom (a big history fan) would read the great stories of the past aloud. As I got older and started to read textbooks myself, the fun began to fade.

There is something special about listening to history. Reading the lengthy textbooks that dominate today’s history curriculum can be tedious. Their words do not jump off the page. Listening to history, however, allows it to come alive.

Sometimes, when studying or reading history, we forget that the iconic figures of past eras were real people, just like us. When listening to history, we become more attuned to the lives, struggles, and triumphs of these individuals.

Eras and Icons

Some of the historical figures that Eras and Icons will examine are truly incredible and provide encouragement for our lives. That is not the case for all individuals this podcast will study. Just as some historical figures have made positive contributions to the world, others have had a negative impact. Studying both the good and the bad of history is critical, and I hope this podcast will offer an engaging way to dive into the lives of some of the most impactful individuals in history.

We have a chance to keep history alive and pass the great stories of the past down through the generations. I believe that hearing history from the mouths of passionate individuals can inspire a deeper enthusiasm for learning in others.

Help me keep history alive by looking at the lives of the individuals who shaped history.

Stay tuned for Eras and Icons
