Most recently, Dr. Coulter and Katie discussed Pennsylvania’s role as a swing state and the importance of local offices. Dr. Coulter highlighted Pennsylvania as a major prize in the presidential election. The state’s unique makeup — part Midwestern, part East Coast — positions it as a decisive swing state in the race to 270 electoral college votes. Additionally, Dr. Coulter discussed the possibility that Pennsylvania’s where final voting results may remain uncertain days after Election Day. With numerous counties and even more precincts tasked with counting both in-person and mail-in ballots, there could be delays in tallying the votes.
Dr. Coulter also emphasized the importance of various statewide offices. These offices, along with the candidates running for them, often get overlooked in this election. These statewide elections can serve as steppingstones to higher offices in Pennsylvania. One of these offices of particular importance is the Attorney General, which tends to be a step towards becoming governor. This office also helps aspiring governors to build vital connections that are not available in offices like state senators or state representatives. Highlighting the significance of these statewide offices, Dr. Coulter underscores how they not only shape the state’s immediate future but can act as indicators of who may have higher political aspirations.
