Do pro-life laws put women’s lives at risk? According to some abortion advocates, laws that limit abortion can cause harm by preventing necessary medical care for women in dangerous situations. In the debut of Breaking the Narrative, student fellow Liliana Zylstra talked to Monica Snyder, executive director of Secular Pro-Life. During the episode, Snyder explained how pro-abortion narratives about pro-life laws leave out important facts and fail to address the true causes of maternal mortality.
Snyder shared what pro-life advocates should say to more clearly communicate that pro-life laws allow for women to receive life-saving care no matter the situation. Zylstra and Snyder also discussed the role of identity in the abortion debate, common misconceptions that pro-choice people have about abortion, and tactics for engaging in conversations with people who hold opposing views.
