Liberty Mail: A place where faith and politics come together.
By Ashby Abernathy
In the latest episode of the Liberty Mail Podcast, Ashby and Katie sit down with President Jim Daly of Focus on the Family. Together, they discussed the pro-life movement, the state of the family, dating, marriage, and hope for young people.
Jim Daly shared how Focus on the Family has grown under his leadership since he began working there in 1985 and became president in 2005. Over the years, the organization has focused on strengthening marriage, parenting, and pro-life initiatives while also encouraging evangelism and cultural engagement.
Daly highlighted encouraging trends, such as the decline in divorce rates and a renewed focus on Christian ethics. He also expressed optimism following the most recent election, which he claimed shows that more Americans are taking a stand for Christian values.
Giving Advice
The Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision marked a major victory for the pro-life movement. Daly, however, emphasized that the fight is far from over. Focus on the Family has contributed significantly to the pro-life cause. They have placed hundreds of ultrasound machines in clinics, which has saved over 115,000 babies. Additionally, the organization has worked to offer reversal treatments for abortion pills, providing more options for women who change their minds.
Jim Daly offered advice to families navigating the changes in public education and the growing trend of homeschooling. He emphasized the importance of Christian families criticizing the education system to ensure it aligns with their values and provides quality learning. Taking a stand against gender ideology in public education is crucial in a place where Christian values are not regularly defended. Daly highlighted homeschooling as a viable alternative, encouraging families to consider it in light of cultural shifts. Raising a Christ-centered family is one of the most important things for Christians to pursue. Jim Daly spotlights the importance of keeping in the word and focusing on scripture to guide families.
At the end of the advice, Mr. Daly advised young people to “get married.” He speaks about how raising children was the highlight of his life. Embrace the good and the bad of being a parent, “enjoy it, and love each other!” Jim Daly offers a hopeful perspective on the outlook of America’s culture, and plenty of wonderful advice to young people and families!
